Mozambique

The Island of Mozambique (UNESCO World Heritage site) is only 3km. long and about 400mts wide, but it is home to 14.000 people and it has two catholic churches, 2 mosques and a hindu temple. Half of the island has portuguese arquitecture and the other half has the typical indigenous houses, but after 30 years of war it needs a lot of restoring.  Because of its great potential as a major tourist destination, the island is receiving the attention of many foreign investors. The reportage focuses the attention on local entrepreneurs, mainly women, who have created a network of about 30 B&Bs. Locals understand the importance of foreign investments but they are worried to see their land slowly being taken away from them.

the reportage was produced for  Yo Dona (el Mundo) and organized with  Banesto Foundation.
